Our Monthly Writing Group Meetings are the heartbeat of Hudson Valley Scribes-the standing date on your calendar that keeps your writing from slipping to "someday." Your annual dues simply hold your seat in the circle so you can show up, month after month, with pages in hand and real progress to share.
We meet on the 2nd Saturday of every month at 10 AM. Some members bring brand-new chapters, others bring a messy first draft, and a few arrive with nothing but a notebook and a stubborn idea. All of that is welcome. We read, we listen, and we offer thoughtful critique that looks at what's working, what's confusing, and where you can push a little deeper.
Because we've been gathering since 1987, our meetings have a comfortable rhythm. You'll quickly learn how we handle time, how we share pages, and how our critique rules keep feedback honest but kind. Newer writers usually start by listening and asking questions; before long, they're trading marked-up pages and swapping publishing tips in the parking lot afterward.
Across the year, you'll also have chances to plug into extras-manuscript feedback sessions, informal craft talks, and occasional updates about retreats or challenges. Think of the dues as your key to a community of peers who will actually notice when you stop writing, and who will nudge you, gently, back to the desk.
If you've been drafting in isolation, these meetings give you something simple but powerful: a room full of people who understand why this book matters to you and are willing to show up regularly to help you finish it.
